Food Safety Research

At NFSI we conduct research to tackle critical food safety challenges, including contamination with pesticide residues, aflatoxins, and microbial hazards. Through our research services, we provide evidence-based data to inform policymakers, regulators, and industry, while collaborating with universities and international organizations to adopt global best practices.

Our areas of focus include:

  • Identification and assessment of food hazards, foodborne illnesses and their epidemiology
  • Determination of approaches, techniques, and practices for foodborne risk reduction and mitigation of risk effects
  • Development of methods and technologies for hazard detection and food testing
  • Assessment of the impact of food safety practices on public health and trade
  • Determine the influence of food safety policies, legislation, and standards on the compliance and performance of industry and food control systems
  • Supporting food enterprises in product development to ensure that products meet consumers’ safety and regulatory requirements.

We seek partnership with any government department, development partner, civil society, business organizations, individual food enterprises (small or large), and or any other stakeholders to undertake action and adaptive research required to address imminent and existing food safety challenges impacting businesses and general members of communities to improve knowledge needed by stakeholders in promoting a food safety culture in society.
